The first animal we saw was a monkey; she came and sat on our balcony and it looked as if she was posing for us to take photographs of her on the other side of our locked balcony doors. Windows and doors have to be locked at all times in this resort just in case the monkeys get in.
At 4.00 pm we departed from the hotel and we headed for the great Zambezi River for our evening cruise. We were met at the boat by a musician playing a type of wooden xylophone.
The African Queen took us up river away from the Victoria Falls and we all sat looking out at the river and the surrounding countryside as we relaxed and had drinks and lots of lovely snacks. We all had our eyes peeled for wildlife.
Below is a photo of the Zambian staff on board the African Queen. We have found the people of Zambia very warm and extremely friendly.
The photo below shows how dramatic and special the Victoria Falls are. The white looking clouds are not clouds at all, it is the mist and spray being produced by the falls in the distance. We are going to spend the day at the falls tomorrow so that's why our cruise went in the opposite direction, where the water was calm and inviting for the animals.
We saw a great variety of birds and a crocodile but when the two hippos came out of the water we all screamed and dived for our cameras; what a wonderful site!
When we returned back to the Hotel, several hours later, we got the shock of our lives when three Impala came out of the dark and started to eat the grass right in front of us; it made our day.
Wow. You have hit the floor running. Amazing. If the rest of the holiday is like this you really are going to have the time of your life.
